Virgo — Founding the Design System
Building Virgo's first design system from zero: −50% design-debt backlog and the foundation for scaling a fintech product line.

01Impact first
Virgo's first design system cut the design-debt backlog by 50%, accelerated feature development across teams, and created the UX consistency that contributed to Google Play's Best of 2022 award. It changed how design operated: from screen-by-screen production to a governed, reusable platform.
02The problem
A fast-growing digital wallet meant multiple squads shipping in parallel — and diverging. Components were redrawn per feature, accessibility was inconsistent, and design QA was eating sprint time. Compliance-heavy fintech UX made every inconsistency a trust risk, not just a visual one.
03What I led
- Founded the system 0→1: token architecture, accessible component library, and documentation designers and engineers actually use
- Set governance: contribution model, design review rituals, and QA checklists so the system scaled without me as a bottleneck
- Aligned Design, Legal, and Compliance so financial UX integrity was baked into components — not patched per screen
- Onboarded and mentored new designers through the system, turning documentation into a training tool
04Reflection
A design system is an organizational product, not a UI kit. The hard work was alignment and governance — the components were the easy part. This became the playbook I later reused to found systems at Setlary and Sobat Bisnis Group.
Let's build something that moves the numbers.
