01Impact first

Virgo was shipping fast and looking less like one product every sprint. Its first design system fixed that: the design-debt backlog dropped 50%, feature development sped up across teams, and the UX consistency it created contributed to Google Play's Best of 2022 award. Design stopped being a screen-by-screen production and became a governed, reusable platform.

02The problem

A fast-growing digital wallet meant multiple squads shipping in parallel, and diverging just as fast. Components were redrawn for every feature, accessibility varied screen to screen, and design QA was eating sprint time. In compliance-heavy fintech UX, every inconsistency is a trust risk, not just a visual one.

03What I led

Founded the system from zero: token architecture, an accessible component library, and documentation designers and engineers actually use
Set governance: a contribution model, design review rituals, and QA checklists, so the system scaled without me as a bottleneck
Aligned Design, Legal, and Compliance so financial UX integrity was baked into components instead of patched per screen
Onboarded and mentored new designers through the system, turning documentation into a training tool

04Reflection

A design system is an organizational product, not a UI kit. The components were the easy part; the real work was alignment and governance. This became the playbook I reused to found systems at Setlary and Sobat Bisnis Group.
